During the month of June we again saw a very low number of crimes reported in the Kyalami AH Ext 1 area.
In Sector 4, the overall number of crimes reported was also lower than in previous months. We believe that this is due to the recent successes in arresting suspects as well as the colder weather.
There was a major success in June when 4 suspects entered a property on Dahlia road and attempted to steal a motorbike. A security guard noticed this and alerted the property owner who in turn put a message on the “Sector 4 Emergency Only” WhatsApp group. CPF members who were busy with a operation along with Midrand SAPS members responded as well as private security members. After searching the nearby veld using a thermal drone, all 4 suspects were apprehended and Midrand SAPS took them into custody. House break in tools were found on the suspects.

All residents of Kyalami AH Ext 1 are able to join the “Sector 4 Emergency Only” WhatsApp group. In this group you may report any current or recent incidents, including medical emergencies, vehicle accidents or fires. To join this group, please send an email to security@keroa.co.za and include you full name, address and cellphone number.
Final Words
KEROA would like to implement street cameras in the area. We have a great opportunity with a supplier to get a test pole up and running but in order to do so we need funding. Please have a look here where we provide the full story and see how you can contribute towards this project.
Please ensure that your alarm systems have some form of alternative power supply, such as solar power.
If you still going to install solar panels, try and ensure that they are not visible from the road and that they are fastened securely. As an additional security measure, try and have some form of alarm installed so that as soon as there is tampering taking place, you can be notified of this.
Due to the amount of loadshedding we are experiencing, the backup batteries in gate motors, electric fence energizers and home alarm systems simply do not last. This means that during loadshedding, your electric fence might not be working at all.
There is a definite trend where criminals are active during these power outages as they know that many properties do not have working fences or alarm systems.
Check your electric fences on a regular basis as well. Ensure that there is no grass or branches touching the wires, as this could cause a short or reduce the effectiveness of the fence. Criminals are also placing small metal wires over the fence in order to cause a short. These wires are often missed when a check is done, and the property owner will simply switch of the alarm. This then gives the criminals the opportunity to enter without raising suspicion.
