KEROA Crime Update – November 2023

In November we saw a sharp increase in crimes within the sector 4 area, as well as in the Kyalami AH Ext 1 area, compared to zero incidents in October.

We had a very unfortunate incident where a family was held at gunpoint in their home an the suspects made various threats of harm to them. Fortunately the suspects left with only some electronic items. We also had 2 cases of vehicle theft from the area and 1 case of trespassing and 1 of malicious damage to property.

There was also the case of the boy who went missing. Various role players got involved to help find him and luckily on the second day of him being missing, he was found safe and sound. An incredible amount of effort went into finding him and we would like to thank everyone involved for not giving up and seeing it through.

We have not yet received the SAPS crime statistics for November therefore this page will be updated as soon as we have it.

We anticipate that the spike in crime will continue up until mid December after which there should be a decrease. However, please stay vigilant wherever you go and especially so when out and about.

Please ensure that your alarm systems have some form of alternative power supply, such as solar power.

If you have solar panels, ensure that they are securely installed and cannot easily be removed. If possible, try and install a sensor to trigger your alarm system in case they are being tampered with.

Test you electric fence regularly to ensure that it is working correctly. If you need to replace the lead acid battery, replace it with a lithium battery instead as they will last a lot longer. (The same applies for your gate and garage door motors.)

Ensure that there is no grass or branches touching the wires of your fence, as this could cause a short or reduce the effectiveness of the fence. Criminals are also placing small metal wires over the fence in order to cause a short. These wires are often missed when a check is done, and the property owner will simply switch of the alarm. This then gives the criminals the opportunity to enter without raising suspicion.

Lastly, try and remove as much of the litter outside of your property as possible on a regular basis. It not only helps to keep the area looking neat and tidy, but it also shows that people are more alert and aware of their surroundings, making it less likely for criminals to target.

Kind regards,
