Crime Overview
During the month of April we again saw a slight increase in the number of crimes in the area compared to the previous months.
The current hotspots in the area are:
- The area around Main road and Salvia road.
- Lower Maple (near Rose) and Galanthus.
In Sector 4, there was an overall decrease in reported crimes, from 26 in March to 20 in April.
The Sector 4 CPF team also had a success in Sun Valley where 1 of 3 suspects was caught after suspicious activity was caught on camera. With the help of various security companies including a drone team, the suspect was apprehended near the corner of Mnandi and Summit road. Various house break-in tools were found on the suspect and he was detained by Midrand SAPS.
In a further success, 3 suspects were apprehended on the corner of Main and Cedar road (near the Pikitup site) after stealing a cellphone from a customer in Kyalami Corner. The suspects drove over the spikes as they exited the parking lot and a delivery bike rider followed the vehicle to where it stopped. The rider returned to Kyalami Corner, picked up a security guard and transported him to the scene. The Sector 4 CPF and private security members attended the scene where two male suspects and 1 female suspect was detained by Midrand SAPS.

Final Words
Please ensure that your alarm systems have some form of alternative power supply, such as solar power.
If you still going to install solar panels, try and ensure that they are not visible from the road and that they are fastened securely. As an additional security measure, try and have some form of alarm installed so that as soon as there is tampering taking place, you can be notified of this.
Due to the amount of loadshedding we are experiencing, the backup batteries in gate motors, electric fence energizers and home alarm systems simply do not last. This means that during loadshedding, your electric fence might not be working at all.
There is a definite trend where criminals are active during these power outages as they know that many properties do not have working fences or alarm systems.
Check your electric fences on a regular basis as well. Ensure that there is no grass or branches touching the wires, as this could cause a short or reduce the effectiveness of the fence. Criminals are also placing small metal wires over the fence in order to cause a short. These wires are often missed when a check is done, and the property owner will simply switch of the alarm. This then gives the criminals the opportunity to enter without raising suspicion.
